Auckland Chinese Community Centre Inc has been organising an annual Chinese New Year celebration for the last 20 years. The Festival has grown in popularity over these years, and has now become a highlight of the Auckland summer events calendar with attendance by 20,000 persons or more. For 2012, we will again have an exciting new partnership with Chinese NZ TV33 which will provide extensive promotion of the event to supplement our normal advertising in major Chinese and community newspapers, Chinese & mainstream radio and Chinese websites. We have moved the main activities to Halls 3 & 4 at the ASB Showgrounds with its improved lighting and layout, and combined with the new comprehensive TV exposure on TV33 digital freeview, there will definitely be an even larger public attendance at this prestigious event. Our Chinese New Year Festival & Market Day to welcome the Year of the Dragon will feature the following activities: - Grand opening by Prime Minister and the Mayor at 10.00am with lion dance. - Over 200 specialist stalls selling traditional & exotic Chinese hot delicacies, Chinese New Year foodstuffs, Chinese traditional arts & crafts, & promoting advisory services. - Special group of acrobatic and shadow puppet performers from Gansu, China. - Extensive entertainment programme of Chinese cultural songs, dances & musical items. - Outdoor entertainment programme of martial arts, tai chi and Chinese pop bands. - Street entertainers and games & rides for children. - Draw to win tickets from Cathy Pacific. - Draw to win five 2012 Year of the Dragon presentation packs from NZ Post. TV33 will start promotional advertising for the festival commencing 1 September 2011, initially for stallholders, and gradually increasing to a minimum of 5 spots per day for the two months leading up to the celebration. Please refer to www.tv33.co.nz for details about Chinese NZ TV33 digital freeview. Other activities are being planned for this fun filled celebration.
